We Must Never Forget

We have a place to call our own again, and after so long…

We deserve this, you know. All those years of genocide against our peoples. Being kicked out of our land, forced to disperse, forced to live amongst those who did not understand us or want us. Being starved and humiliated, just because of our race. The world deserted us. It shunned us and left us to fend for ourselves.

How hard we had to fight to get what was rightfully ours…

But now we have regained the land of milk and honey…

We’ve paid for it with our very blood, with our sons and daughters, mothers and fathers…

Ahh, but now it belongs to us again…

Peace can reign now that we have control over our own land. The God of Abraham has seen to that, has taken care of His peoples of the book.

He has given us all that we deserve…

Things are different now though. The landscape is so very different.

Listen…Do you hear the sounds of the ocean? Ahh, yes, the soothing Mediterranean…

Why, it’s much closer now than it once was. Yes, when I was young, it couldn’t be heard from here.

If you listen long enough, you’ll hear the echoes of peace that each wave brings in as it hits the rough coastline.

Where was I? Oh yes, the past…The brutality that brought us to where we are now…

Hated for our very existence…

But now the world can see we belong here. They finally support us, have seen the wickedness of their deeds, apologized plenty for our being recklessly slaughtered, as they stood by doing nothing.

They regret their actions now.

They feel guilty for allowing that holocaust to ever take place. Heads of state and heads of churches have begged our forgiveness. We give it of course, for that is what the God of Abraham commands.

Ahh…yes…listen, great grandchild, listen, there it is again, the wonderful sound of water…

No, Khalil, it could not be heard this far east when I was your age. It was the bombs, you know. Yes, the bombs. There were enough that by the time everyone was done, Israel no longer was. She was gone. Israel was gone.

We, it’s earlier inhabitants, pushed and stifled into this small piece of land to the east were all that was left of her existence. Lessons were learned…A new understanding was birthed and the course of history changed. The waters rose and covered the ugliness…Peace returned to the world.

No, Khalil…If Israel left behind any valuable lessons, it’s that we must never forget…
