Birther-Linked Super PAC Runs Islamaphobic Ad Against Michigan Candidate

thinkprogress.org

In a stunning appeal to Islamaphobia, a group linkedto former Swiftboater and birther conspiracy theorist Jerome Corsi has launched a smear attack ad on a Muslim-American Congressional candidate. The spot warns that Dr. Syed Taj, the Democratic nominee in Michigan’s 11th Congressional district, wants to “advance Muslim power in America.”

Freedom’s Defense Fund, a right-wing PAC that has spent at least $150,000 on ads in support of Missouri Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin (R) despite his comments that victims of “legitimate rape” are unlikely to become pregnant, reported spending at least $30,000 on ads against Taj and for his opponent Republican Kerry Bentivolio, a Tea Party activist and Santa Clause impersonator.

So far in the 2012 election cycle, the PAC has spent over $3 million to promote its far-right beliefs. Corsi, who has been tied to the Fund, has promoted a multitude of Islamophobic conspiracy theories, including that President Obama wears an Islamic inscription on the interior of his wedding ring. Despite his fringe beliefs, Corsi was recently permitted to ride on the Romney campaign plane with the press corps.

This spot, titled “What do we really know about Syed Taj?” warns:

ANNOUNCER: We know Syed Taj wants to advance Muslim power in America. Syed Taj: too extreme for Michigan. Too extreme for America.

The text on the screen shows a quote from a Muslim Observer article, in which Taj observed that “right now there are two elected Muslims in congress, with a third we can form a caucus, we will have more power.”

Watch the ad:

On its website, Freedom’s Defense Fund claims it fights for “the principles of limited government, as the Founders understood them.” Apparently they don’t believe freedom of religion is of those principles.

You can always count on Corsi and the gang at World Nut Daily to raise their ugly heads. I live in Michigan and I voted for Dr. Taj. His opponent, Kerry Bentivolio, is a Tea Party freak. I knew it was only a matter of time before some Islamophobe started slinging mud. They want to make it illegal to be a Muslim in America.

Jerome Corsi’s connections to Israel are transparent, not simply his “Atomic Iran” and his World Net Daily archive, but his statements on my radio show in 2008 that he “constantly receives advice from my friends and advisors in the Israeli Knesset.” It is noteworthy that Howard Phillips, the ex-chief of the Conservative Caucus and the Constitution Party, was promoting Corsi as the Constitution Party’s best bet in the Presidential sweepstakes of 2008, despite Phillips’ claim not to be a Neo-Conservative. Phillips has provable links to Benjamin Netanyahu, and participated in an attack on me with Israeli asset Kenneth R. Timmerman in Accuracy in Media in a piece entitled, “Tehran TV Loves Ron Paul.” Are the pieces beginning to fit? A proposed Constitution Party Presidential nominee in 2008 riding on Mitt Romney’s campaign aircraft???

    That ad is pretty disgusting.
It makes me think, though; are there any ads about the Izrahell-firsters? Any ads saying, “We know Mitt Romney will put TelAviv before USA, every time.”? No, of course not. That would be, “antisemitic”. Yet we have idiots buying into whatever Islamic-hate rhetoric; as many as there are selling it, for sure.

And this is why we will never be an “Americans Firxt” nation again. Our representatives at all levels of “our” government are merely puppets for the terrible bastard-state. And I don’t know how to make it end.

Oh, and CK (comment #1): regarding the “Tea Party”, which started with good intentions:
take a look at the recent documentary on Park Avenue (is in hulu.com and may be called, “704 Park Ave”) to hear more about the Koch (pronounced Coke) brothers, who happen to have purchased the Tea-Party for a song.
They are behind a lot of negativity from within the “freedom-firsters”. They have figured out how to get the Republicans to do exactly what the Democrats have done for decades; put the whims of Izrahell far beyond the needs of America and Americans.
