ed note–again, if this represents the ‘wisdom’ of our side in getting our point across to the masses, than we are screwed.
All that this idiot achieved (and his confreres around the country who have done likewise) is to paint gun owners as dangerous individuals incapable of understanding the mood that the American public is experiencing right now at the sight of armed individuals in public places. Individuals such as this are akin to football players who lose their bearings on the field and run the ball into the other side’s end goal and who don’t understand that all the cheering they hear coming from the stands is from the fans of the opposing team because his stupidity resulted in them winning the game.
RIVERDALE, Utah (AP) — Hours after President Barack Obamacalled on Congress to ban assault weapons, one man’s protest raised some eyebrows at a Utah store.
An Ogden woman snapped a few photos of a man standing inside a J.C. Penney on Wednesday with a big gun slung over his shoulder.
Cindy Yorgason said that even for a firearm-friendly state like Utah, it was out of the ordinary.
“I’ve seen someone carrying on their hip or leg, but I have never seen anyone openly carrying an assault rifle,” she said.
Yorgason took two photos of the man and posted them on Facebook, where they received hundreds of comments and have since been shared more than a thousand times. She said she’s “incredibly amazed” at the attention the images received.
She wasn’t alarmed when she spotted him with the weapon butYorgason thinks the man took it too far while trying to make a statement.
“I just think it’s inappropriate,” she said.
The man, identified as Joseph Kelley, 22, told The Salt Lake Tribune he wanted to demonstrate that the weapons aren’t dangerous when handled by law-abiding citizens.
Kelley said he’s a former member of the military and alerted police in advance that he would be carrying the weapon, which he identified as an unloaded AR-15.
Kelley was also carrying a Glock 19c on his hip.
He said he received positive reactions from people who spotted him.
Attempts by The Associated Press to reach Kelley were unsuccessful.
Local law enforcement authorities said they didn’t receive any calls related to the incident or any notice from Kelley, Riverdale City Police Lieutenant James Ebert said.
But if the gun is unloaded, “then you’re well within your rights to carry a firearm,” Ebert said.

Love it ….Love It……Love it ……..Love it . however I honestly believe this photo was deliberately taken to send a message, and the message has been duly received . After the Sandy Hook Shooting I am shocked at the response of these people in the photo . clearly there would have been a reaction of alertness to panic by these people yet you observe these people faceless and without emotion . I did truly enjoy this article and photo . to the writers on this site . Keep up the good work

Mark, I think you are totally off-base here. This is not some kook who is preparing to blow everybody’s head off in a shopping mall. He is precisely the opposite of that, someone prepared to PREVENT dozens of casualties should any crazed gunman get the wrong ideas. I personally would have applauded the guy for standing up for liberty, and for making me feel SAFER. All it would take is just a few dozen more gutsy patriots like this out there, and before you know it, the panicked liberals who cringe at the sight of any firearm would realize that guns themselves are neutral objects… it’s how they are used and by whom that determines whether they are good or bad. They have a good side also that people are not acknowledging, and the best way to get that message out is for others to follow this guy’s example.
ed note from me, MG–I live in the most pro-gun place in the world. I carry a gun and have for years. My wife and some of my older children carry guns. When the weather is good, we go out shooting sometimes several times a week.
Having said that, if I were with my family out someplace public and saw some guy toting around an AR, I would get my family out of the vicinity, call the cops and keep an eye on this guy should he decide to copycat what he has seen take place over the last few months/years.
This guy is not ‘gutsy’. He is an idiot who is unnecessarily frightening the public in order to ‘make a point’. He is alienating the rest of the country against gun owners and alienating the cops/political establishment against him/us as well. He is the liberal gun-hater’s dream come true.
This is as much a no-brainer as there could be, and the fact that it needs this much explanation is yet another testimony as to just how impotent as a movement we are.
#3 by annebeck58 on January 20, 2013 - 6:50 pm
I agree, not well thought out, and inappropriate.
What was the point this guy was attempting to make? How is it supposed to do anything for the, “gun-movement”?
Is this to test the conceal-carry law? If so, shouldn’t the gun be concealed? Is there a license to carry in the open like this?
Regardless..; this is helping who?

If he had an Army Uniform on and the Helmet, people would have thought, there is one of our
protectors, though the Branch Davidians did not get much protection. This man is one of the
unorganized militia who is trying to stress the importance of a citizen having the right to bear arms.

Really though, I don’t know what kind of mad society allows armed customers to enter stores..

As the State of Utah like neighboring States, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico Nevada, and others it is not unusual to see people openly carrying a pistol, but THIS is going over the top. The age of the young fellow carrying it says alot. Another ‘Young Gun’ and not very wise, at all.
#7 by Steven on January 20, 2013 - 8:39 pm
It looks to me like he is giving crooks an incentive not to rob the store while he is in it. If all shoppers went shopping with guns crime would drop off a cliff and the lawyers and prisons would be rendered useless.

Making a point – the right to bare arms is the right to bare arms anywhere. WELL DONE!
The Editor that also criticize this – WAKE UP! They intimidate us – intimidate back and maybe just maybe they will back off. Otherwise guns will have to be worn all the time in a shooting war!
YOU GUYS TALK TALK – START WALKING THE TALK! Show you right to bare arms now or you will be forced to proof it later.
#10 by Coenraad on January 20, 2013 - 10:44 pm
Stephen – you sound like scared liberal – how can a good man with a gun make you nervous – you shall call the cops?! – what the …! That sounds like every talking head on tv!
I think you must rethink your side – i do not want you next to me in this struggle.
GOOD MEN WITH GUNS SHOULD NOT MAKE YOU NERVOUS – THEY SHOULD MAKE U PROUD THAT THERE ARE STILL REAL MEN OUT THERE!
–ed note from me, MG–these were not Stephen’s comments, they were mine.
‘Good’ men with guns do not bother me. They do not ‘frighten’ me. If I had my way, every able bodied man and woman in America would be armed and ready for business, publicly.
and that is the problem. You don’t know who the ‘good’ guys are and who the bad guys are, and in the environment we are living in now, where crazy people are going into public places and gunning people down because their favorite actor happened to do it in his last flick, we do not know who the bad guys are from the good guys.
And trust me, I am NOT next to you in this struggle. If you haven’t got the grey matter to see that this–toting semi-auto rifles around brazenly in public in the aftermath of these massacres–is a problem in terms of gun ownership in america and the PR war that is being fought against a well-armed public, than I want as much distance between myself and you as possible.
Besides, how does someone with an IP address in Australia consider himself ‘part of the fight’ in keeping guns in america, eh MATE???

From the looks of it, Mark ‘Coenraad’ has a bit of an itchy trigger finger. If he had at READ the BOLD PRINT which clearly indicates EDITORS NOTE from YOU; Mark Glenn in the SAME BOX as Stephen Smith#2, he would have been able to in the very least make a relevant comment and look so obviously ridiculous!!! As they say ‘Shooting from the hip’ in hopes of outgunning your adversary. Not too bright! Hmmm i wonder since Mr Coenradd is actually a Cohen?? Australia has a sizable Jewish population, most of which are ZIONISTS. Just wondering.

It is considered good etiquette to cover up your weapon.
#13 by annebeck58 on January 21, 2013 - 1:07 am
tsunami;
Agreed. It is one thing to conceal a weapon you’re carrying, just in case something happens, and quite another to show-off your big-guns, in order to intimidate and/or prompt others into action.
Seems to me this guy set out of his house with the idea to intimidate.., and how is this good for those who want our laws (including our gun-laws) followed?
And, Shadow, yes. Who knows whom we’re talking with or is popping in to say something that means absolutely nothing because he or she could not be bothered to read the whole thing? I do believe the more dense entity is flitting about and going nutts, like it does their, “side”, any good. Just the usual small (momentary) annoyance.

These are not assault weapons. These are assault style semi-automatic. Are these guys actually props? Are they inciting civil war? While Americans decry the breach of the Posse Comitatus, these guy are so stupid to think they are accomplishing a right to freedom and civil liberty by absolute anarchy?
The only way to secure the rights of the constitution is to round up the treasonist and seditionist nationally, who hold public office, starting with the cronies who worship ITSREALLYHELL first.
#17 by Coenraad on January 21, 2013 - 2:45 am
“It is considered good etiquette to cover up your weapon.” ARE YOU SERIOUS? – they are about to try and take your guns – killing you with vaccines etc etc and you want to talk about etiquette.
Please get with the game – this is about survival. Di you actually listen and read what is on this site?
GOD help us if we are still talking about etiquette!’
ed note from me, MG–indeed, it is etiquette. I have seen the looks from people when they see me strolling around with a high-capacity .45 holstered on my side and a mag pouch loaded with extras, even here in pro-2nd Amendment North Idaho, where Mother’s Day was also officially recognized as ’2nd Amendment day, I understand their being nervous.
EVERYONE here in Idaho packs heat, most of us concealed, and it is for reasons of ‘etiquette’, no different than a beautiful woman covering up certain parts of her body when in public.
Besides, there are tactical reasons for carrying concealed as well, something that I would have assumed someone as smart as you would already have thought of, Mr. Crocodile Dundee–if you are in some public place and someone shows up with evil intentions and you are carrying in the open, who do you think is going to be the first person he takes down before going on his rampage?
#18 by Coenraad on January 21, 2013 - 2:49 am
No Coenraad is actually Flemish – name calling is what the other side do. I am ex-South African and have seen how people talk and worry about nonsense untill it is to late. The people who got nervous about good people with guns are the ones that got murdered or raped.
No itchy finger here – have been to war and it is hell. I have walked the walk.
But to prevent a civil war in US you better start showing you take the right to bare arms seriously!
#19 by Robert Pickle on January 21, 2013 - 3:31 am
Both sides to sedition anarchy and treason will be held accountable. Do not be so naive to believe if a civil war begins, the the US Military will not intervene on part of the Government. This nation is being diverted for the One World Odor procession…wake up, all. You are playing right into their hands.

Well Mr Coenraad, I will be quite frank. Just like Mark Glenn was saying about you. I want you as far away from me as possible when the shooting starts. i would do exactly the same unless I was an irresponsible parent. By the way, Australia is a breeding ground for MOSSAD operatives and is indeed a very scary place for freedom loving people.
Without going into the details of this Hollywood circus, that guy is obviously acting upon orders from those who want to ban guns.

I suspect that Coenraad, being former South African, was a big player in apartheid, probably got to kill quite a few blacks, and probably has no problem with former South Africans, converting to Judaism, and transferring apartheid, in the form of weapons, and wild animals, to Palestine..

THe 501 C3 anti-Christ run choose, churches have brain washed them to the point, that they cannot even read a Bible, let alone understand the Words of Christ Jesus. Hollywood (sorcery) has so beguilled them with filth they are in a different reality plane of existance. All of this time, after all of the MURDERS in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Yemen and all the countries the choose have sent them and their children to MURDER, RAPE, TORTURE, Billions of Dollars or Trillions robbed from them, abortion, Homosexuality, the inculcating of their children to the Sin-a-GOG of Satan, and they silenty sit back in absolute apostate complacency……..then when The Criminal regime places their puppets, all the while silent……..The President makes mention to gun control, and they come out full force wanting even more death and destruction….Playing right into the hands of the One World Odor architect, Satan. Where were all of these yappers, when millions of children were even being starved to death or Murdered? In truth God does not bless this nation, But I believe, rightly so, that God has damned this despicable country, and what will unfold upon the people is what they asked for, and it ain’t Toyota.

I think, Wad, this is what many of us tried to warn others of. Jumping aboard the train to crazy town, right away, with no thought to how that train may (or will) derail is not smart action. It’s always going to inspire worse reaction, particularly from those who love to point and laugh, smugly.
And, yes; I do believe there have been some, “from the other side”, playing that game. I know Mark has said some things about calming down in regard to some of the craziness of, “fellow truthers” (the ones the other side calls, “troofers”). I said and felt the same. Now that some of us have gone there, though; how do we control that damage?
I’ve stayed out of this post (mostly) because I did not wish to get into more of the tiffs all throughout the movement. And, i am not here to only say, “I told you (any of you) so.” I just hope people will think, more thoroughly and earlier, the next time something looks amiss yet there is no factual evidence to prove it either way.
And Coenraad; I was really hoping, after your first comment and response back from Mark, you would say you had been mistaken. Why didn’t you just admit that and let it go? I know others are calling you opposition and I don’t know if it’s that or if you just want to, “be right” (or not proven wrong…) but the whole thing looks ridiculous, to one who’s ignored the majority of comments, thus-far.
Which is it, Coenraad? (- which is a funny way of spelling Conrad, anyway; e’en for a Scott.)
#31 by Coenraad on January 21, 2013 - 6:34 am
You guys are disappointing, the right to bare arms means that, the right to bare arms in public or any where.
But then again as I said, name calling belongs to the other side and you guys seem to go there very easily instead of having a conversation. That speaks for itself.
While you guys are still talking and and playing on the net other people are actually doing and I suspect that will be the case for a long time still, you might just never do more than talk.
Bare your arms it is a right – if you don’t use it you will lose it.
Have seen it before – guys like talk/write a lot but are actually naive about doing something.
Enough of this. Go play.
#32 by Simone Moran on January 21, 2013 - 7:29 am
The photograph is very well taken. I wonder who shot it, no pun intended. Who is this guy in the photo? Is he for real? Maybe he is, maybe he’s government. We don’t know. Why get stirred up and worry about the public being stoked up about a putative massacre? Why be manipulated by any of this? Why start fighting and bickering among the supposed truth seekers? What’s the point? As a matter of fact, people are not that stirred up. The majority of them are drugged pharmaceutically, or street-drugged, or drunk. Hey, the Super Bowl is coming. Remember, it’s all American image, it’s all media manipulation. It’s Big Brother. Read Orwell every six months. On the other hand, he could have been setting us up too. Stick with God and stop fighting wars in your head. Thoughts become wars. Stop bickering. It’s too stupid. Get straight. People were bragging a little while back they had it together because they had families. It was the other people who were devoid of family who just had hate. But I am seeing some hate going on here and I recommend stopping yourself from letting these devilish notions take hold of your thoughts.

This is the most stupid and childish way for men to behave in order to prove their machismo or maybe immaturity. Nowhere in this civilized world (except in the US) men behave so childish and stupid. I wonder what American men achieve by doing this kind of immature behavior by carrying a gun on their shoulder?!… This is what we call it, big body, small brain…
Usually it is normal for children under age 10 to behave like that but for adult men it is considered to be the sign of immaturity or brain problem. If they really want to show their freedom and democracy, why don’t they criticize their corrupt government, corporations and other things or at least be able to do something about social problems, not by doing this crazy & stupid behavior…

We know that the invasion of Afghanistan was yet another illegal war, drummed up by lies and deceptions manufactured by the Bush ad-menustration against the CIA created Bogey Man, Osama ben Laden. We know that after “catapulting” the lies, George Bush sent in the troops to begin massacring their masses and to occupy, even against International Law established, and very Unconstitutionally, but they had rushed in their Orwelian Patriot AKT to raise the bloodlust of the USA Masses. We know then, Winston Smith warned us, that the face of the wolf would slowly fade, up popped the Face of Saddam, the face of Qadafi, etc, But who are we at war with? ” US”, said POGO
But now to the point. This Hypocrite, Marine, CPL. Yes, thanks, Ingrid.
I only wanted him to pass on by or stop and state the obvious. He misread the comment and responded (I’d say in error.) Guess I didn’t have to throw that in at the end, but I did.
Ingrid, your other comment cracked me up, but I had hoped Coen-raad would take the chance to be reasonable, so I said nothing.
I really don’t see how anyone can look to Israhell and not see it is a terribly apartheid state. But, some do– every day.

Now, Coenraad, you’ve said this a few times: the right to “bare” arms. Perhaps, if you wish to keep quoting our American amendments, you may wish to read this again.
It is the right to BEAR arms (to hold or maintain arms). It is not a right to “BARE” arms (or to SHOW of DISPLAY arms, in public.)
And, in the USA, at least in what we call genteel society (not so much like S.Africa under apartheid), people don’t walk about with rifles (assault or othewise) strapped across their backs, unless they wish to start problems. I do not know what this young man’s game was, particularly, but I did see it as asinine. His act was not exactly inspirational or thought-provoking. He’s lucky he did not provoke any action, which he’d not be prepared for with the gun slung across his back like that, either.
Minimally; check out what it is you mean to say. And then make your point, clearly.
Begin with the correct quote, definitely, always!

I believe, that if I were to go into a parking lot of JC Penney, and were to see a man with a semi automatic style assault weapon about to enter into the store, in light of Mall and public shootings, and If I was carrying a concealed weapon, I would have to stop him and ask him to surrender his weapon, regardless of his right to bare arms. Conraad, If you truly feel this is a right, why are you not seeking bunker buster bombs or Nuclear weapons?
Also, note, that us playing on the internet, standing up legally, by waging the never ending war against your freedoms, who daily surrender our own safety to wake the masses, just might save the lives of your family, after you are possibly slain by a constitutional Sherif, for entering into a mall with your semi automatic AR 15. You may make 2nd page news in some local rag.
This bold movement is not working in your favor. Be sure to understand that many of us have also fought in their Judaic wars before becoming courageous, and taking the fight to the proper battlefields.
If we do not have correspondances one to another, how then can this divided country be united. Their plan is succeeding, Divide and conquer.
