What Americans Believe: Iran War Propaganda

Sheep_Herd

John Glaser

new Gallup poll found that 99% of Americans see Iran’s nuclear program as a threat to the US national security. They believe Iran’s imaginary weapons program is more of a threat than North Korea’s actual nuclear weapons.

[I wrote about the wild success of Iran war propaganda last year, in a post called The Power of War Propaganda on Iran and Why It Works. The following is excerpted from that post.]

Contrast these beliefs with the facts: The consensus in the whole of the intelligence community in the US (and Israel) is that Iran has no nuclear weapons program and has yet to demonstrate any intention of starting one anytime soon.

But false beliefs persist even when there has been ample reassurances from elite sources in politics, the military, and the news media that Iran has no weapons program. A matter of months ago, the Obama administration marched out their minions, from Defense Secretary Leon Panetta to Director of National Intelligence James Clapper to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey, all of whom reiterated the fact that Iran has no nuclear weapons program, despite constant rhetoric to the contrary.

In February the New York Times ran a front page story entitled “U.S. Agencies See No Move by Iran to Build a Bomb.” It reported: “Recent assessments by American spy agencies are broadly consistent with a 2007 intelligence finding that concluded that Iran had abandoned its nuclear weapons program years earlier. The officials said that assessment was largely reaffirmed in a 2010 National Intelligence Estimate, and that it remains the consensus view of America’s 16 intelligence agencies.” Again in March, they reported “top administration officials have said that Iran still has not decided to pursue a weapon, reflecting the intelligence community’s secret analysis.” Another in the Los Angeles Times was similarly headlined, “U.S. does not believe Iran is trying to build nuclear bomb.”

Furthermore, even if Iran did have nuclear weapons, there is broad consensus that it would not translate to nuclear war. Officials and expert analysts constantly explain Iran’s leaders are rational, unlikely to provoke a conflict, and have no interest in suicide as a result of nuclear retaliation by the US. The threat from Iran is manufactured.

So can the politicians and the media still be blamed for spreading falsehoods about Iran? In a word, yes. Former CIA officer Paul Pillar, when writing about the misinformation campaign to sell the Iraq war, explained it was “less a matter of instilling any specific mistaken belief than of instilling a mood and momentum.” It was “at least as much a matter of rhetorical themes as of manipulated evidence. The belief was cultivated by repeatedly uttering ‘Iraq,’ ’9/11? and ‘war on terror’ in the same breath.” Despite the official position that Iran has no weapons program and has not demonstrated an intention to build one, most of the political, military, and media elite are constantly regurgitating lines about blocking “Iran” from obtaining “nuclear weapons.” In Obama’s statement yesterday following his latest Executive Order imposing additional sanctions on Iran, he talked about the “Iranian government” and “its defiance” in its nuclear program. A Romney spokesman then came out and said Obama “has allowed Iran’s nuclear ambitions to proceed unimpeded,” and that Obama’s policy and Iran’s ongoing program “has imperiled our allies and jeopardized our national security.”

The administration officials that came out to reiterate the intelligence consensus did so in boring Congressional testimony, which no one watches. The more vociferous and rhetorical politicians going on tirades on the Senate floor or demagoguing on television and reinforcing the belief in Iranian weapons programs, by contrast, get the attention of the electorate. And far fewer Americans read the New York Times frequently enough that they may have caught those few articles dispelling the myth of Iranian nukes, than watch pundits on network news like Fox, CNN, and NBC, for example, which constantly mislead on this question.

Trevor Thrall, also writing in the National Interest in a follow-up post to Pillar’s piece on Iraq war propaganda, said much of the reason such false beliefs persist is because the American people are substantially ignorant of “what’s going on in the United States, much less the rest of the world.”

The 2008 civic literacy survey conducted by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute, for example, found that fewer than half of all Americans can name all three branches of government and that almost 40 percent of Americans believe the president has the power to declare war. Just 27 percent know that the Bill of Rights expressly prohibits the establishment of an official U.S. religion. The Pew Research Center, which tracks such things in a fruitless effort to find that news consumption improves political knowledge, found ample evidence of American ignorance in its 2007 survey: 31 percent could not name the current vice president (Cheney); 68 percent did not know that Sunni and Shia are two branches of Islam..[etc.]

And when briefly-appearing facts are explained in Washington and the media, it actually doesn’t hold much sway. Back in 2010, Joe Keohane wrote a piece in the Boston Globe about how political science research shows that “facts don’t necessarily have the power to change our minds.” He cited recent studies which found that

when misinformed people, particularly political partisans, were exposed to corrected facts in news stories, they rarely changed their minds. In fact, they often became even more strongly set in their beliefs. Facts, they found, were not curing misinformation. Like an underpowered antibiotic, facts could actually make misinformation even stronger.

People are not just ignorant, they’re ideological. They’ll believe what they want to believe. Unfortunately, such widespread and impenetrable false beliefs in the realm of foreign policy means that the political leadership can pretty easily launch a war if and when they decide to do so and whether it is warranted or not.

Ninety-Nine percent of Americans are this STUPID? That is sad!
Even if Iran had nuclear bombs, they would not be able to reach America. They could not get close enough in American waters or American air-space without being blown up!
On the other hand, those we should be worried about are allowed in, given free-passage into our nation, and their ability to come and go and spy on us and bomb us is more eased as the days pass.

Yet Americans don’t see that or get it still?
I think our education system needs a complete overhaul.

The fact that so many Americans believe in this manufactured “Iranian threat” is not so much due to what polticians say, but how the media bombards the public with an image of Iran as a threat. If it were just politicians making unsupported statements, a real independent media objectively reporting the news would provide people with the information required to make a rational judgement on the statements of politicians and others.

But we do not have an independent media. What we have is Jewish media which works hand in glove with the other elements of Jewish power to further what they see as Jewish interests….and wars against anyone and everyone who fails to surrender completely to Jewish power are definitely seen by Jewish power as one of their core interests.

I would venture to speculate that even if the entire planet were to surrender completely to Jewish interests, they would still be targeting one people or another for attack simply because these wars are a great means for extracting wealth from the US economy (as well as the economies of any other nations which they can use to attack others). War is big business and at the end of the day, Jewish power is all about extracting wealth from the gentiles. It is the end purpose of power for them….They see the entire world as having been created for them to exploit and this is precisely what they have been doing for a very long time now.

Some times after reading these types of articles. I just want to get the HELL OUT OF THIS COUNTRY! This nation being as powerful as we are and a electorate as STUPID as it is!
    It’s truly a dangerous cocktail!

Excellent article. Yet despite the obvious truth that his article presents, I just saw the news about Netanyahu still saying Iran is very close to building a nuclear weapon.

In other words, the guy is attempting (and succeeding with) the dark arts technique of pure hypnosis, which seems to work every time on the sheeple unfortunately, as indicated by the 99% success rate.

The other sad possibility, is that when these opinion polls are taken, the people being questioned consider they are being monitored, their ID’s being noted, and simply say to the person asking the questions what they think the questioner wants to hear, and they have very good reason to in these increasingly Stalinist times.

Who knows, if they answer the other way, the next time they go for a bank loan they might get refused, and their business go under, or get passed over for promotion at work, or their kids get allocated to some crime-ridden under-achiever school, or worse still, they get bumped off by iatrogenic ‘error’ by some Jewish execution squad of so-called doctors in some hospital or other, and considering the utterly vast percentages of Americans losing their lives in hospitals these days, those hospitals might just as well have ‘NKVD EXECUTION GROUND’ posted over their entrances.

    According to the following article;

‘The American Medical System Is The Leading Cause Of Death And Injury In The United States’

By Gary Null PhD, Carolyn Dean MD ND, Martin Feldman MD, Debora Rasio MD, Dorothy Smith PhD The total number of iatrogenic [induced inadvertently by a physician or surgeon or by medical treatment or diagnostic procedures] deaths is 783,936.

If we take the average lifespan at 78 years in the US, with a population of 330,000,000, that comes to well over 1 in 5 getting whacked by the doctors. That is very fishy indeed.

This Movie came out in 1976! Can you even imagine what the stats are now of what he is talking about! GREAT MOVIE!
The only lie it told was that the Arabs were to blame for are troubles. But then it revealed that it was the International Corporations. AH HA! But it never really revealed who owed those corp. either. Much less who really prints our money. But what did you expect! It was written and directed by a Jew.
But despite that it makes a good point in what happens when you combine News and Entertainment together in Broadcast News. Which I really feel is the reason we are the nation of Moran’s we are today.

On the face of it, the poll result is preposterous. Could it possibly be – do you think – that this poll was not an honest poll? Could it possibly be that the public relations industry might lie to us ordinary folk?

  7. #7 by Joe on February 23, 2013 - 7:48 pm

I don’t believe that 99% of Americans think Iran is a threat. That’s propaganda. It’s to make us Americans who are opposed to war with Iran feel overwhelmed and throw up our hands in despair. It’s to make us Americans who are opposed to war with Iran feel isolated and alone, and stop speaking up against war with Iran : ” What’s the use? 99% of Americans think Iran is a threat, so what’s the point of speaking out against war with Iran. The situation is hopeless “. The Gallup poll is bullshit.

Hardly any Americans see Iran as a threat. Also, there’s alot of opposition to war against Iran in the US military, including the Pentagon itself.

The average Americans who Do think Iran is threat ,only think so because of all the lies and distortions about Iran in the mainstream news. Even the Americans who only watch mainstream news : Even they don’t support war against Iran very much. The majority of Americans are AGAINST war with Iran. That’s the truth.

If there was no mainstream news, the poll would read 1% of Americans see Iran as a threat : And that 1% is AIPAC, and AIPAC’s willing servants on Capital Hill, and the corporate heads of the armanents industry.

The Gallup poll is intentionally designed to make us Americans who are opposed to the war feel isolated, to give up hope, to stop speaking up against Uncle Sam’s agenda, and to throw up our hands in despair.

It’s pure war propaganda. It’s pure jew bullshit. It’s jew war propaganda designed to make us give up in despair, and to stop sharing The Truth with our fellow Americans.

Joe, I am thinking maybe they polled (only) teevee newz watchers?
Even then, though, I couldn’t imagine 99-percent would ever believe Iran is a threat.

I think this poll is trash.

  10. #10 by Joe on February 23, 2013 - 10:09 pm

    @ annebeck58

Most likely, they only polled teevee newz watchers, as you say. Or, maybe they polled 99 sayanim operatives, and one normal person, lol.

The “poll is trash”, that’s for sure. How convenient for the jew warmongers that 99% of Americans see Iran as threat. Gallup over-stepped this time : It’s way too obvious the 99% figure is bullsh*t.

The good news is there’s alot of opposition to war with Iran in the US military, including the Pentagon.

I think that if American public really knew what happened in Iraq after the American invasion and why America went to war , they will know that nothing will harm them from Iran.

The US Public i a very dumb bunch. The Jews want it that way.Woodrow Wilson,PHD,Democrat, and no Republican Neoconservative Hero, wanted to take Culture, and critical thinking skills out of the schools. His Jew/British Propaganda run government(He gave us the Rothchild Fed)got us into WW1.than the Jews pushed the gentiles out of Hollywood, and they started agitating for another big bigger war,and pushed pro communist/British,anti German lies, which are ,and even by some of the idiot anti-German,comments on here, still working !Steven Speilburg does the job today,….The US public is getting better not worse. The medias highlighting of slovenly dress, silly crass TV,bad speech, dis harmonic music, violence, is part of the program of keeping the human mind dumb, and not allowing any one to grow up.

@Joe: are you on a Valium I.V. drip.

Notwithstanding that unquestionably, of all the allegedly “advanced” nations of the world, America is peopled by the most mentally, morally, and culturally bankrupt demographic on the planet. Since the nation consists of the most ethnically diverse demographic of the “advanced” nations of the world, the condition cannot be attributed to an intrinsic or genetic defect or deficiency. Only a singularly sinister, malevolently machinating manipulative misanthropic group megalomaniacs with a scores of years of a strangle hold of on all forms of media could accomplish such a transformation of a somewhat sentient, civilized society into competing herds of lobotomized ovine and seemingly spongiform encephalopathic bovine. One group stands out as possessed with the requisite hatred of “the other” developed and deepened with generation after generation practice. They are irredeemably what they are. one would have more success as domesticating to warm and fuzzy house pet status,a farggin Komodo dragon. The Ziosauroan.

  14. #14 by Joe on February 24, 2013 - 5:41 am

    @ Shafar nULLIFIDIAN

I know there’s alot of opposition to going to war against Iran in the US military, including in the Pentagon, and I notice the gallup-poll 99% number is pure bullshit : That’s obvious.

The 99% gallup-poll figure is the work of “The Ziosauroan”. I use your terminology.

As you say, “The Ziosauroan” has a ” srangle hold of on all forms of media”, and as you say, they’re “megalomaiacs”, so it naturally follows they would lie in order to persuade more Americans to support their war agenda.

In the case of the 99% figure, the goal is to make those of us Americans opposed to going war with Iran give up, shut up, and STOP sharing The Truth with our fellow Americans ; To make us feel overwhelmed and isolated in our opposition.

It also makes the fence-sitters lean towards supporting the war agenda. ” Well, if 99% of Americans support the war agenda, then there must be something to it “. It’s very obvious jew war propaganda trying to get more Americans to support them. That means there’s not nearly as much support as they would like. That’s a good thing. May the opposition grow. Everybody keep speaking up and keep sharing The Truth with our fellow Americans.

” The Ziosauoron ” hates America. They would just love it if we too would hate America as much as they do — it would make their job — their agenda — alot easier.

To learn about how truly “malevolent” they are , go to :

    http://www.TalmudUnmasked.com

It’s a Catholic website. If one is not Catholic, just ignore the Catholic stuff, and just read the talmud.

Or, Google : ” Jews + Communism + The Talmud”

That will bring up more websites about the talmud. Learn what “The Ziosauron” is all about.

It’s a good idea also to go online and learn how propaganda is manufactured and how it works. Do some google searches. @ Shafar : Use your imagination in coming up with search terms. You @ Shafar seem to have a way with words.

This shows the power of brainwashing in this country… I am sure if US and Iran become friends then the US media will start spreading positive news about Iran… then all of this 99% of people in less than 24 hours will change their minds and look at Iran and its leaders as a friend or better to say good guys…

Brainwashing in this country is very strong and invisible… There is not a big difference between freedom of press in the US and the 3rd world countries. In the 3rd world countries the limits of freedom is visible and everybody knows his/her limits but here that limit of freedom is invisible and many people don’t see it but they are controlled & brainwashed by the system.

In the US there are hundreds of radio stations, TV and newspapers which is a positive sign for freedom & democracy but if you go through all of them then you won’t get any news about the major US foreign affairs or the base of foreign policy. This is why even many educated people in this country still don’t know the reasons or causes or their country’s foreign involvements, wars or military bases… I believe, there won’t be any hope as long as people in this country are brainwashed or maybe careless about this wild system…

    Google : ” Manufacturing Consent”
    ” Manufacturing Consent Propaganda”
” Manufacturing Consent Propaganda + Jew War Agenda”

It’s a good idea to make a list of all the alternative websites you go to — like this one, for example — and make alot of xerox copies, and hand the information out to your fellow Americans. That’s what I do.

It’s a lot better than sitting around in despair and hopelessness of the situation. Be careful of disdain for your fellow Americans — however brainwashed they may be — We’re all born into a world of 24/7 propaganda.

Instead of heaping scorn and disdain on your fellow Americans, do something to break the propaganda. Share The Truth. The ruling class has scorn and disdain for us : It makes their agenda a lot easier to implement if we, the average citizens, have scorn and disdain for one another : That’s one of the Major Goals of propaganda. Don’t fall into that.

Although many Americans are brain-washed, it’s the same situation all over the world. Americans,as a whole, are not any less intelligent than any other nationality. We’re all born into a world of lies. Instead of heaping scorn and looking-down-your-nose at those who are brainwashed, do something to Share The Truth.

There’re still plenty of intelligent Americans around. Stop despairing, and do something to share truthful information. As there’s a lot of opposition to war with Iran in the US military — including Pentagon brass — right there is a reason not to despair.

That Gallup felt the need to lie so egregriously about the number of Americans who support the war agenda is another reason not to despair. If anything, it proves there’s really not that much support for war amongst Americans. The jew warmongers are desperate to win more support, yet it’s not forthcoming, not at all : Not when the opposition to war with Iran emanates from the military and the Pentagon itself.

May the opposition grow. In the meantime, do something to Share The Truth.

IngridB is correct. Sooner or later there will have to be a showdown between the ptb and the people. If the people are not adequately prepared for that showdown, the ptb will win again. Being prepared involves ensuring adequate supplies of food and water indefinitely, as well as being organized and equipped to defend against official violence. The money racketeers – under the status quo – control the food producers who need to be brought into alliance with ordinary people. If that could be brought about, then “the people” would stand a chance of winning the battle of wills. Without that, a divided rabble wouldn’t stand a chance, and the ptb would wait – as many times in the past – for things to become unbearable. People are confused to a point of helpless paralysis. Nobody knows how to start from scratch. It will necessarily be a never-ending process of trial-and-error. Having said that, there is a model to learn from. Just one model that I am aware of – and only recently in my old age. What Hitler’s government achieved from 1933 onwards demonstrated what government for the common good can achieve. Democratic government could do what Hitler did. But not with winner-takes-all-power politics that fraudulently calls itself democracy.
The only possibility for a democratic system to be developed would be for a society’s priorities to be decided by plebiscite and for acknowledged capable people to be delegated responsibility for implementing those priorities, with rigorous systems of responsibility whereby poor performance or corruption are quickly detected and brought to account.
We need to resurrect personal honour – which is a far more effective motivator than money. Hollywood and the media have just about succeeded in killing off personal honour.
I’ll stop there, or this will become a rant.
