Times of Israel

David Lau, the recently elected chief Ashkenazi rabbi of Israel, was broadly condemned for a racist comment about basketball players at the Maccabiah Games.

Exhorting his haredi Orthodox constituents to devote their time to learning Torah rather than watching basketball, Lau said on Tuesday, “Why do you care about whether the ‘kushim’ who get paid in Tel Aviv beat the ‘kushim’ who get paid in Greece?”

Kushim is the equivelent of ‘nigger’ in Israeli slang.

The remarks were first reported by a phone news service for haredim, Hakol Haharedi, and subsequently picked up by major Israeli newspapers.

According to The Jerusalem Post, Knesset Education and Sports Committee Chairman Amram Mitzna said it was “very unfortunate that rabbis who are supposed to guide the way ethically fail time and time again by making racist statements.”

Lau, who was elected last week as chief rabbi, canceled a planned vacation abroad after the remarks were published.

Canceled trip abroad because he is a coward.like all jews. He thinks the entire world cares about what he says or thinks. This P.O.S. was born through a rectum.

    Hahaha..
Of course: “Lau, who was elected last week as chief rabbi, canceled a planned vacation abroad after the remarks were published.”; of COURSE he had planned a trip abroad, outside of the lunatic-state, so people would have the time to “forget” his words… Does he think he can make it okay if he stays in town? Does he think an apology will suffice? Perhaps he NEEDS a trip abroad, say, to AFRICA?
What ever happened to that ever-told statement, “NEVER FORGET”? Or, again, does it only apply to Jews?
A good part of me reads this and thinks, “AND??”, as it is so USUAL.
But the other part of my brain says, WHY do they ALWAYS get away with this?

I am only surprised that anyone raised a ruckus about this nastiness, not that it was said. It was most likely said throughout the bleechers and on the way home, in the cars, on the Jew-only-roads. So, COME ON> WHO’s kvetchig over this one?? –Not the CHOSEN folk, is it?

He’s a product of his religion. The entire so called ‘State’ of “israel” was and is by its very core; racist. The recent hulabaloo over the “israel” Soccer Team having two Muslim players from North Africa revealed as much. The situation they have created with this ersatz ‘Country’ is untenable and due to collapse under the sheer weight of its own insanity, ugliness and vile hatred of ALL non jews, regardless of their color, ethnicity, tribal affiliation or creed. ‘jew ONLY’ roads, ‘jew ONLY’ schools, ‘jew ONLY gated housing Communities, and on and on. This creep deserves a royal mocking and should be made to travel to a western African Country to do at least one year’s Community Service. And that would most likely not cure him of his religious programming. Judaism by its very tenets is an anti human, racist Cult. The programming runs deep and in most cases incurable.

The word “kushi”, far from being the equivalent for “nigger”, is the normal word for negro in Hebrew. It is derived from the name of the ancient kingdom of Kush, in modern Sudan. But perhaps “political correctness” has also hit Israel and this normal word is now taboo, just as the word “negro” is now taboo in the US.

Yes, Franklin I understood the word they use is more likely, “schvaarta”, as most of us have all heard it. If you’ve spent much time in youtube, particularly on comment pages re: Palestine (videos), you have seen that word bantied about.
But, I think what this is about has more to do with context than anything. “one NEGRO besting another NEGRO at a game, and who cares?”
It is ironic, however, that those who would pressure Americans (and all Westerners) to not use (even) the word, “negro”, would also turn around and discuss the same people in such a negative manner.., regardless of which word is used. I mean, who do you think constructed the, “politically correctness” we’re all expected to adhere to in the USA? It was those who would use these terms and would put-down basketball players based, solely, on the color of their skin.

It had more to do with this rabbi pointing out “differences” and saying the game didn’t matter, only because it was played by Blacks against Blacks, is what I got from the statement.

It IS ironic that it is these people who’ve defined the differences and tend to point them out all the time.
